The Best African Ingredients To Keep At Home

The allure of Africa

For hundreds of years Africa was considered as the Dark Continent and even today there are many people who are attracted to this continent for a wide variety of reasons. One of them is the typical African ingredients which has become so popular in many kinds of dishes. There are some ingredients which can only be found in Africa and there are many people who will do just about anything to lay their hands on African ingredients. Fortunately many of these things can be important and the conveniences of a modern society such as air travel or the possibilities of shipping is making the importing of African ingredients a very easy endeavor. Many people are fully aware that some ingredients can only be found in certain parts of Africa and there are many people who recognize several distinct African regions such as East Africa, North Africa, West Africa, Southern Africa, Central Africa and also the Horn of Africa. Each of these regions have certain ingredients and products which are typical of those regions and which may not be available in other parts of Africa.

Ingredients from central Africa

Some of those ingredients most often associated with central Africa is cassava, peanut and chili peppers. There are also plantains and fufu and many of these things is prepared with other food sources such as spinach, tomato, onions, okra, and ginger. The areas around the African Lakes has their own preferences such as maize which is produced from corn. In this area green bananas is also a major part of their diet and this is cooked with a whole range of spices such as cloves, saffron, cinnamon and many other popular spices. Some other things which is associated with this region is limes, lemons, oranges, maize, tomatoes and peppers. Moving on to the Horn of Africa there are still more surprises as far as popular ingredients is concerned. Here you will find things such as wheat, legumes, lentils and flava beans. In some parts Injera is the staple diet and it is manufactured out of barley, corn and wheat and the end result is something spongy almost like a sour pancake. There is also various kinds of rice mostly of the basmati type. Several types of spices is seen such as Sage, cinnamon, Cumin, cardamom, and cloves.

A mixture of these should be in each home

Many of these interesting ingredients is now freely available locally and those which is not can be easily imported through various methods and once ordered they will mostly be received in a relatively short time where after they can be introduced in various types of food for that additional flavor sensation. There can be no doubt that there is some African ingredients that certainly allows people to achieve amazing flavor combinations which can truly result in a dish that will be exciting and interesting for all those people who may taste it.
