Before, I couldn’t wait for the opportunity to stand up for my rights. Sure, maybe I was young and rebellious or I just had the decency to actually care about other living beings and the outcome of the future. The truth is – being vegan always seemed natural for me, it is natural to me still and it always will be, I simply learned how to listen my organism and started indulging my needs. I never really had any craving for meat, whatsoever. Through my adolescence years people mocked me, humiliated me, made fun of me on numerous occasions and every single time I was ready to fight, ready to stand up for myself. Now, with so many years passed by, I got a little bit tired of explaining myself and my beliefs to every single person that has the time and energy to judge my life choice. The reality is that nobody even knows that I am a vegan until they don’t start insisting that I should join them for dinner or a meal, and I don’t even say it all the time, it is much easier just to say that I am not hungry and that I can’t eat. And you know all those prejudgments people have, that all vegans are skinny? I am not even skinny and there is nothing different about me that could give away my lifestyle just by looking at me.
I am also a proud mother of a healthy two year old boy, I am not even going to teach him to be on a same diet as me, I will let him choose for himself and I will encourage him whatever his future choice may be. You cannot imagine how it feels when the media and the news constantly present vegan lifestyle as an abomination, and vegan mothers like monsters, claiming that our breast milk is killing our own babies. The discrimination that we are going through makes other people feel encouraged to look down on us. It is not my fault that one mother had a sick child, or even wasn’t fit to be a mother, and the fact that you can make a connection between her and me just because we are both vegans is not just insulting, it is stupid! There are hundreds of unfit mothers, and unfortunately there are hundreds of kids with health problems as well, and they are not all vegan! My lifestyle is not killing anybody and above all, my lifestyle doesn’t give you the right to judge me. Please, if you are a vegan and you are going through any type of harassment, know that you are not alone. If you don’t have a local support group, you can always find one online.
The sad fact is, people that criticize me, call me sick and unnatural, basically don’t even care about me and are unhappy with their own lives, so they choose to filter their negative energy through meaningless fights that gets them nowhere, but it gets me upset. I support everybody to make their own decision, but when it comes to certain things you will never convince me to change my mind. Soon, the world will be forced to consume GMO meat, and I’m not even going to say anything about the species that are extinct due to our careless behavior. Pesticides and fertilizers are poisoning our water supplies, it is just a matter of time when there will be nothing left for us to drink. And the chemicals that you eat with your food on a daily basis are actually making you sick and not me. One of the advantages of being a vegan is that you are in fact healthy, and I do feel great, energized, motivated, and every day is a blessing for me. My diet is based strictly on natural products, and you can even get organic food online so feel free to introduce some healthy habits in your lifestyle as well, it can only do you good.
If someone is wondering, my son is also healthy, and I love him with all of my heart.
